About Irish Flutes

The Irish flute is a side-blown instrument similar to the classical flute, but has a wider bore and a conical shape, which helps create its distinctive sound. Traditionally, Irish flutes are made of wood. However, aluminium and plastic flutes do offer excellent value, and are easier to maintain. The Irish flute is typically played in the key of D, although some flutes are available in other keys.
